MATURITY COMES IN MIND NOT IN AGE

Bishal Das

“Maturity comes in mind, not in age”. It is really a very true fact. Every person has their own capacity to develop in life. If someone utilizes his or her brain from childhood surely he or she will be matured at an early age. But few persons we are watching in society even being 60 year old their brain is just like a 15 years boy. It means, they have not utilized their brain.

What is maturity? Maturity means to judge something by own views. In this time after 18 years we are allowed to cast vote. Why particularly that age is selected? Because it is generally thought and accepted that ‘Eighteen years’ is the exact time to be an adult and to be a matured person too. But does everyone get maturity at that period? No. few persons especially those people who have connection with education, get maturity earlier. Because, through education they come to know properly what is good and what is bad. But some people mostly who are not connected with study or educational activities, cannot understand what is good or what is bad. So here an average is done and 18 years of age is selected as the maturity period.

Another thing, it is not true that who are receiving education, only they will be matured and who are not getting any scope of education they will not be. Maturity comes in other ways also, such as, the child labors. We are watching that they are quite our same age. But they are habituated to do the physical work what we can’t. The naked realities of life make them day by day matured in nature. Not only that, at the age of 14-15years, they are earning money to survive, what we cannot imagine also. It is also maturity. Their brain is matured in that very sector where they have to struggle to survive. And our brain is matured in that very sector where we have to make our future brighter. It is the difference between than and us.

Another example I want to put here. Suppose a flood or flood like natural disaster strike at any place. There we find that so-called bad boys are coming forward to take part in rescue or relief works. But the so-called good boys are sitting at home. Why? So-called bad boys have already come to know what straggle is. The nature made them strong and matured. So they try to save everyone because they are faster in this work and dedicated more to help people than so-called good boys. Here we find so-called good boys are less matured in mind.

In the exams like Madhyamik, H.S etc. we found many external candidates are taking the examination. Sometimes the 60-70 years old persons also appear for this examination. Why? Because, they can feel the necessity of education right then. Means, they got maturity in their last stage of life. Whereas the regular school students are appearing for the exam at the age of 15 years so here there is no difference for the first time mentioned 60 years old person and the second time mentioned 15 years boys.

The great teacher Herny Louis Vivian Derozio became the professor of Hindu College at the age of 17. His most of the students were elder to him. It is also a type of maturity that one is getting a post of professor at the age of 17 years.

So I conclude saying that we come to understand that maturity really comes in mind not in age. Examples taken from life supports this statement.
